Dr. Nadra Assaf is a dancer, choreographer and the founder/artistic director of Al-Sarab Dance Foundation. She has taught dance across Lebanon and is now Associate Professor of Dance at the Lebanese American University (LAU) and was previously a judge on the oriental dance competition show “Hezzi Ya Nawa'em”.
In this Sarde, we spoke about the following:
- The history of oriental dance more commonly known as “Belly Dancing”
- Arab society’s cultural norms have affected dance between and among Men & Women
- The different kinds of Dabke (social dance) in Lebanon
- Oriental dance techniques across the Middle East
- The difference between Contemporary & Modern dance
الدكتورة الجامعية نادرة عساف هي راقصة ومصممة رقص ومؤسسة معهد رقص السراب. لقد علمت في عدة جامعات مختلفة في لبنان وهي حالياً استاذة رقص في الجامعة اللبنانية الأمريكية. قبلها كانت في لجنة حكم برنامج المسابقة في الرقص الشرقي "هزي يا نواعم".
